Most plastic is made from crude oil and natural gas. We must reduce fossil fuel dependency to adequately address the climate crisis. Senedd Cymru has a net zero target for 2050. Transformation in the plastics industry can help meet this goal. Celtic Minerals will convert 50,000 tonnes of fly ash each year into a filler for plastic polymers, to be distributed across the UK and Europe. The filler will reduce the amount of new fossil fuels involved in plastic production by putting a coal waste product to new use. This is the first brand-new mineral-based filler for the plastics industry in more than half a century.
