Activated Carbon is a mineral with many important industrial, medical, agricultural, and environmental uses. It is therefore a valuable product in its own right. The fly ash at Aberthaw is 20% carbon—a significantly higher percentage than ash at other sites. Celtic Minerals will process 120,000 tonnes of ash into activated carbon each year, specifically to sell for purification systems. Working with our industrial partners, it is also possible to further process the carbon into a rubber filler for tyres.
